I've never stayed in a really top hotel there, as I just don't see the point. You get up in the morning, fuck off out all day, and then come back to sleep, and possibly have a bunk up. There's too much going on, to waste time in the hotel.

Hilton Times Square on 42nd street or millennium Broadway. Hilton is top notch though.

A couple of years back, 5 of us stayed in the Affinia Manhattan. So good that my daughter stayed there again last year. Opposite Madison Square Garden (see concierge for tickets) and Penn Station - which is on a direct line to JFK. Didn't eat there but there's a fine bar opposite

Stay lower East side. Rivington hotel. Very boutique very happening and an amazingly bohemian area with everything close by. Fuck.off the usual mid town haunts!

Waldorf Astoria.... Cheaper than you think.

Although the room service club sandwich and chips cost $90.00

H&J are a good travel agent too... My daughter fell ill the night before we went and they paid up with no quarms... Ended up going in April in the end.

Take a winter coat.

Depends on budget and where you want to be. Most others have suggested decent options. Personally I would air bnb it though, you could get an entire apt for price of a hotel room.
